The Play Your Age Junior Tennis Championships came to an exciting end at the National Tennis Centre, Abuja, with Mohammed Idris, Salamatu Haruna, as well as other youngsters emerging victorious in their respective categories.

In the Boys Under-12 category, FCT’s Mohammed Idris outlasted Ezekiel Azi in an epic final encounter to win 3-5, 4-10, 11-9 and claim the trophy. Meanwhile, Salamatu Haruna, also from FCT, defeated Imole Afolabi of Oyo to clinch the Girls Under-12 trophy.

In the Boys Under-10 category, Peter Idoko proved too much for Musa Isah of FCT, winning 4-0, 4-2 to claim the title, while Mariam Azi Bala of FCT defeated Mnena Lorlumun to win the Girls U-10 category.

David Ekpeyong of Akwa Ibom bested Sani Saidu of FCT 4-2, 4-2 for the title in the Under-14 boys category.

Elsewhere, Iye Onoja dismissed Esther Oni for a very comfortable 4-0, 4-0 win to secure the Girls Under-14 title.

Teams from 11 states, Ekiti, Oyo, Plateau, Enugu, Niger, Benue, Kebbi, Akwa Ibom, Kano, Bayelsa, and the FCT, competed at the event. Medals were given to all the participants, and winners received tennis shoes.

The event will be used to establish a National Junior Ranking. It is the first-ever national junior event to be used for a junior ranking.
