Teenage sensation, Omolade Aderemi defeated 6th seed, Blessing Anuna in three sets to reach the second round of the Rainoil Open today.

Aderemi, who has a good year on the junior level, notably winning the girls 16 and under title at the CBN Junior Open in May, claimed a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Anuna to set up a second round meeting with Stella Udokwelu.

On Court 6, Bukola Olowu produced a rock-solid performance to beat qualifier Omotayo Osewa 6-2, 6-4.

Osewa, a former No. 1, had made the main draw here via two qualifying rounds, but couldn’t match Olowu’s intensity.

Up next for Olowu is 5th seed, Patience Onebamhoin, who thrashed lucky loser, Ngozi Dirisu 6-1, 6-0.

Top seed, Oyinlomo Quadre began her bid for a third straight national title with a 6-1, 5-0 (rtd) win over Christie Nwankwo. Quadre, who hasn’t lost a match in national tournaments this year, will take on Loveth Donatus for a place in the quarter-finals.

2nd seed, Aanu Aiyegbusi secured a 6-0, 3-1 (rtd) win over Ramota Odeyemi. Aiyegbusi, who came into this event on the back of a runner-up finish at the Dala Hard Court Championship, was comfortably ahead before Odeyemi retired due to injury.

Elsewhere, Toyin Asogba outclassed Jumai Mohammed 6-3, 6-1, while 8th seed, Omolayo Bamidele sped past Ogechi Aniegbo 6-1, 6-2. Amala Nwokolo took out qualifier, Khadijat Salami 6-2, 6-3, while Oluchi Ozurumba eased past Abies Amadasun 6-2, 6-1.

n the women’s doubles, Omolayo Bamidele and Oyinlomo Quadre teamed up well to thrash Christie Nwankwo and Bukola Olowu 6-0, 6-1, while Bunmi Are and Khadijat Salami claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ogechi Aniegbo and Ujunwa Umeh.
