The wait is over. Main draw action at the Tombim Abuja Open serves off on Tuesday, with players, both the big guns and outsiders, looking to start off strongly and negotiate through the sections of the draw.

The Nigerian player will not begin their singles campaigns until Day 3 (Wednesday), but there are some other mouth-watering matches lined up for Tuesday.

Sadio Doumbia [2] vs Abdoulaziz Bationo

Hostilities on Day 2 will get underway, when 5-time ITF World Tour winner, Sadio Doumbia of France and his 18-year-old opponent, Abdoulaziz Bationo, take to Centre Court to slug it out for a place in the second round.

Bationo, who received a wildcard, and has never won a main draw match on the ITF World Tour, will be seeking to upset the odds and secure a first win here. But that will be a big task, given the credentials of his French opponent, who is fresh off back-to-back quarterfinal showings in Russia and Portugal.

It’s a first time meeting between both men. Can the young Ivorian pull off the upset, or will the 2nd-seeded Doumbia ease through?

This match is live on Centre Court from 10:00am.

Jaimee Angele vs João Pedro Sorgi [7]

19-year-old Jaimee Angele of France returns to Abuja for the second year running, and will seek to build on his previous performance at the Tombim Abuja Open, when he takes on 7th seed, João Sorgi, in the first round.

Angele made a run to the semifinals of the Tombim Open last year, losing to Markus Eriksson, and has only equalled that run at an ITF event in Egypt. Last month, the Frenchman reached the quarterfinals of an M15+ tourney in Arcadia, USA, and will now be aiming for a stronger run.

Sorgi, meanwhile, will look to successfully drive towards a second ITF Tour title and first since 2013. Last month, the Brazilian put together good performances to reach the semifinals of the M15+ event in Tabarka, Tunisia, but has since then suffered back-to-back first round exits leading up to the Tombim Open.

Will Sorgi get back to winning ways in what will be a first time meeting against Jaimee Angele, or will the Frenchman stay on track in his bid to go one better this year?

This match is live on Court 1 from 10:00am

Marko Vejnovic vs Arvid Nordquist

Call this the ‘Battle of the Swedes’. Marko Vejnovic, who won the wildcard playoffs on Sunday, will take on his countryman, Arvid Nordquist, who came in via the qualifying rounds, in the last singles match on Court 5 for Tuesday.

It’s a first time meeting between both youngsters, should be a fun watch, as both players are seeking a rare main draw victory on the ITF World Tour.

Vejnovic, aged 19, hasn’t won a main draw match on the ITF World Tour, while Nordquist’s last and only win came in his home country in May, 2017. Whoever comes out on top here is anyone’s guess.

This match is live on Court 5, not before 1:00pm.

Meanwhile, in the doubles event on Day 2, Nigerians will be in action.

The duo of Henry Atseye and Emmanuel Audu will take on Arjun Kadhe of India and Maximilian Neuchrist of Austria for a place in the quarterfinals, while Tochukwu Ezeh and Michael Kesiye, both of whom couldn’t make it to the main draw of the singles event, have joined forces for the doubles and will square off against the pair of Danylo Kalenichenko and Niels Lootsma.

Both doubles matches will be on Centre Court, with Henry Atseye and Emmanuel Audu’s coming up not before 1:30pm, and that of Ezeh and Kesiye not before 2:30pm.
