Teenage sensation, Oyinlomo Quadre got off to a winning start at the J3 Pretoria in South Africa today.

Quadre, bidding for a first title in the 2020 season, produced a solid performance to outclass Jessica Portwig and advance to the second round of the Grade 3 hard-court event.

The 16-year-old 2nd seed registered a fine 6-1, 6-4 victory to set up a second round meeting with Algeria’s Ines Bekrar. Bekrar had beaten South Africa’s Isabella Venter 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Quadre and Bekrar have squared off twice on the Junior Tour, with a win apeice. Bekrar edged the Nigerian in their first meeting—the 2018 African Youth Games—in three sets before Quadre defeated the Algerian in straight sets at the J2 Tlemcen in Algeria last year.

A second straight victory over the unseeded Algerian will see Quadre secure the quarter-final ticket.
