Oyinlomo Quadre advanced to her first ITF quarter-final, following a 6-2, 1-0 (rtd) victory over 8th seed, Tamara Curovic at the Lagos Open in Onikan today.

The supremely talented Nigerian proved too hot for the 24-year-old Serbian as she broke twice in the first set to take it. Quadre would get the best start in the second set, breaking again for a 1-0 lead before Curovic, who was bidding for her 10th ITF title, retired.

For a place in the semifinals, Quadre will go head-to-head with 2nd seed, Valeriya Strakhova of Ukraine, who defeated Jasmine Jebawy 6-1, 6-0 in 61 minutes.

Elsewhere, Blessing Samuel was beaten 6-0, 6-1 by Laura Pigossi of Brazil, who’s seeking to go one better this week after finishing as a runner-up in the first leg. Next for Pigossi is Nastja Kolar, who recovered from a slow start to knock out last week’s champion, Sada Nahimana, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 in 2 hours.
