Seun Ogunsakin came within one match-win of back-to-back Chevron Junior Tennis Championship boys 12 & under titles, following a 9-4 semifinal victory over Lucky Danjuma at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club in Onikan today.
Ogunsakin, the top seed in the category, will take on Silas Isaac in Sunday’s final.
Isaac was in brilliant form on the day as he swept aside Henry Aina 9-0.
In the girls 12 & under category, 2nd seed, Nene Yakubu also produced an immaculate performance to power past Success Ogunjobi 9-0 and set up a final showdown with top seed, Favour Amaechi, who edged Mary Azi 9-8(7-1).
Meanwhile, the boys 16 & under final will see the No.1 and No. 2 seed in the category, David Ekpeyong and Daniel Adeleye, go head-to-head for the title. While Ekpeyong brushed aside 4th seed, Joshua Maxwell 9-2 in the semis, Adeleye outclassed Taofeek Mogaji 9-1.
Rebecca Ekpeyong, who was adjudged the most outstanding player in the previous edition, advanced to the girls 16 & under final, following a fine 9-4 victory over Mary Udoffa. The top seed, who’s looking to defend her girls 16 title, will square off against Jesutoyosi Adeusi, who outlasted Blessing Otu 9-7.
