Action at the ITF/CAT African Junior Championships continues at the Stade Omnisports Eyadema and AAT Tennis Club in Lome on Tuesday, 7 January, with Marylove Edwards taking on Marie-Stella Tsawlassou in the second round in the Girls U16s category, while Oiza Yakubu faces Lea Besoux in the quarter-finals. Suleiman Ibrahim faces Togo’s Junior Dogbe in the Boys U14s quarter-finals.

Play however got underway in the Girls Under 14 category on Monday, with Salamatu Haruna and Esther Oni easing into the quarter-finals of the individual event.

All three girls leading Nigeria’s charge for top honours in the girls U14s received first round byes. However, only Haruna and Oni were in action on Tuesday.

Haruna defeated Togolese 7th seed, Abide Beouzi 6-1, 6-1 to move into the quarter-finals, where she will play either Benin’s Gloriana Nahum or Ivory Coast’s Ahou Kouakou.

Elsewhere, Esther Oni, who’s seeded 8th, trounced Sierra Leone’s Mariama Kamara 6-3, 6-0 to set up a quarter-final meeting with 3rd seed, Valentine Talaki, who advanced to the quarter-final, following a 6-0, 6-0 win over Djemilla Honvou of Benin.

Serena Teluwo, who’s seeded 6th, will take on Ghana’s Naa McKorley for a place in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.

Canice Abua will take on Cameroon’s Borris Esono in the second round of the Boys U16s, while Suleiman Ibrahim will face Hermann Ndonfack of Cameroon also in the second round of the Boys U16s category.
