Qualifying action in the men’s and women’s singles fields continued on Saturday at the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja, with players in both fields working their way through to the final round.
Wilson Igbinovia moved into the final round of the men’s singles qualifiers, with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Kayode Savage and will now face Michael Ayoola, who got past Isaac Anande 6-2, 5-0 (rtd), for a place in the main draw.
Isiaka Toriola proved too much for Lumas Raymond for a 6-1, 6-1 win, while Jamiu Sulaiman edged Kesiye Maxwell 7-5, 6-4.
In other encounters, both Opeyemi Odeyemi and Ayobami Odeyemi claimed straight-sets victories to set up a winner-take-all match for a spot in the main draw. Opeyemi Odeyemi defeated Simeon Adewumi 6-3, 6-0, while Ayobami eased past Anthony Azuonye 6-0, 6-2.
In the women’s singles qualies, which began today, veteran Omotayo Osewa had zero troubles in taking out Oluchi Igwe 6-0, 6-0. Up next for the former No. 1 is Fatima Ganiyu who dismissed Bose Bamidele 6-0, 6-1.

Elsewhere, youngsters, Jesutoyosi Adeusi, Toyin Asogba and Nene Yakubu all made great starts to come within one more win of a place in the women’s singles draw.
Adeusi outclassed Esther Ajayi 6-0, 6-2, while Asogba defeated Ujunwa Umeh 6-2, 6-4. Nene Yakubu, who claimed the girls 12 & under title at the Chevron Junior Tennis Championship in October, defeated Tina Enosoregbe in straights. Yakubu, after a tight first set, raised her level in the second set to claim a 7-6(1), 6-4 victory. She takes on Adeusi in the final round.
