Qualifying action at the Rainoil Open concluded on Sunday, with 16 players in the men’s field and 8 players in the women’s field securing main draw places.
David Dawariye, who opened his qualifying campaign on Friday with a comfortable win, fought off a rather strong challenge from Emmanuel Onyejiaka to win 6-4, 7-5 and book a spot in the men’s singles main draw.
The 15-year-old was joined by Wilson Igbinovia, who made quick work of Michael Ayoola, winning 6-0, 6-3.

Youngsters, Suleiman Ibrahim and Gabriel Friday also made it through to the main draw. However, neither of them completed their match, with Ibrahim leading 7-6(5) before his opponent, Ramos Osagie, retired due to the injury. Friday and Nasiru Sanni were midway through their encounter, with Friday leading 6-3, 3-2 before Sanni also retired due to injury.
Isiaka Toriola also secured a place in the men’s main draw, following a comfortable 6-3, 6-1 win over Fortune Uche, while Abayomi Odeyemi accounted for Opeyemi Odeyemi 7-6(1), 6-1.
In the women’s singles field, former Nigeria’s No. 1, Omotayo Osewa, completed a stress-free qualifying campaign with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Fatimah Ganiyu. The veteran had claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win in her opening round match on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Nene Yakubu came from a set down to edge Jesutoyosi Adeusi 1-6 7-5, 10-8 and clinch her spot, while Toyin Asogba eased past Mariam Ali-balogun 6-3, 6-2.
Other players to qualify for the main draw in the women’s field include Temitope Fashanu, who outclassed Rahima Bello 6-2, 6-2, and Afolarin Akosile who defeated Esther Olamide in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 10-6.
