Canice Abua of Kogi State and David Ekpeyong of Akwa Ibom powered into the boys’ singles final at the National Youth Games in Ilorin on Saturday.

Abua, seeded 16th, produced a brilliant performance to dismiss Oyo State’s Mubarak Ganiyu, who’s seeded No. 3, 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals at the tennis courts of the University of Ilorin. Abua of Kogi State, will play for Gold, when he takes on David Ekpeyong of Akwa Ibom in the final.

Ekpeyong continued in his rich vein of form to beat Bayelsa State’s Jimoh Taofeek 6-1, 6-3.

In the girls’ singles event, Lagos State’s Destiny Okhinaye rallied from an opening set loss to beat Mary Udoffa of Akwa Ibom 6-7, 6-3, 10-6 and book a final date with Imole Afolabi of Oyo State, who edged Ekiti State’s Esther Oni 7-5, 7-6(1) in the other semifinal.
