Sweden’s Marko Vejnovic defeated Ivory Coast’s Abdoulaziz Bationo 7-5, 6-0 in the final of the wildcard playoffs for the Tombim Abuja Open at the National Tennis Centre in Abuja on Sunday.

Vejnovic and Bationo had ticked through their respective section of the playoffs draws, strongly, to reach the final, and both men began their final clash impressively. However, it was Bationo, who carved out the early break in the opening set to go 3-2 up. But the Ivorian failed to consolidate with a hold, as Vejnovic broke right back to draw level at 3-3.

Things went with serve until the 12th game, where the 19-year-old Swede broke Bationo, who was serving to force a tie-break, to take the set.

The second set was very dissimilar to the first. Bationo lost the composure he had carried in the first set, and Vejnovic took full advantage to hand the 18-year-old Ivorian a bagel and secure the wildcard.

The main draw of the Tombim Open will serve off on Tuesday, 9 April at the National Tennis Centre, Abuja.
