Teenage rising stars, Abayomi Philips and Emmanuel Jebutu made a brilliant pairing to advance to the boys doubles quarter-finals at the J5 Stavanger in Norway today.
The Nigerian pair, who are seeded No. 2 in the doubles event, rallied impressively from a set down to beat Denmark’s Ervin Mesic and Filipe Mikkelsen 3-6, 7-6(3), 10-6 in Tuesday’s doubles first round.
Philips and Jebutu had produced their best tennis to level the match in a second set tiebreaker before going on to clinch the decider and secure their quarter-final ticket.
They face the Britain’s Hugo Coquelin and Luca Pow next.
The young duo are looking to claim their second ITF Junior doubles title as a pair. Together, they won the J5 Abuja boys doubles crown on home soil in November last year.
Elsewhere, Toyin Asogba and her partner Daria Domova of Russia, who were in girls doubles first round action earlier, fell short to the duo of Leah Edwards and Olivia Thiemke 6-0, 6-2.
