Abayomi Philips and Emmanuel Jebutu, today, couldn’t get past the quarter-finals of the Mozambique International Junior Championship at the Clube de tenis de Maputo.
Philips, 17, was beaten 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3 by South Africa’s Andreas Scott. The Nigerian, though edged in a tight opening set, fought back to draw level in the second set and force a third. But his South African opponent proved too much in the decider.
Elsewhere, Emmanuel Jebutu, who was aiming to reach his first semifinals of the season, was beaten 6-1, 6-4 by Nathan Hoarau of France.
Both boys will now turn their attention to the J5 Abuja tournament, which will get underway on 5 November at the National Tennis Centre, Abuja.
