Qualifying action for the ITF Grade 5 tournament in Abuja will hold on Monday, 4 November, with only Nigerian players in the fray.
The qualifiers will only be played in the boys singles category, as the main draw of girls singles event is already enough for the registered female players.
David Ekpeyong, who recently had a fine run at the Chevron Junior Tennis Championship in October, where he finished as runner-up in the boys 16 and under category, will be looking to book his place in the main draw of this week’s event. Ekpeyong will take on Benjamin Ayuba, who also has his sights set on a main draw place.
In other qualifying contests, Musa Mohammed will face Ojo Fredrick, while Gadaffi Yakubu squares off against Michael Emmanuel. Musa Sani and Uche Emeruwa will go head-to-head, while Rubi Toba meets Ojente Azamata.
Canice Abua will take on Elisha Olowogbile for another main draw spot. Abua had a fantastic campaign at the National Youth Games in Ilorin, in September, where he moved through the boys singles draw in the tennis event to clinch Gold for his State, Kogi. The youngster will be looking to bring that form into this week’s event in Abuja.
The qualifying action, which features just a single round, is live on Monday at the National Tennis Centre in Abuja.
