Marylove Edwards’ impressive run at the ITF Grade 4 tournament in Lome, Togo, came to an end today after the youngster was edged in three sets by No. 2 seed, Yasmin Ezzat of Egypt in the semifinals.
Edwards, bidding for a first title on the ITF Junior Circuit, had rallied from an opening set loss to force a final set. However, a shoulder injury would hamper Edwards’ chances in the third set, leaving Ezzat to take advantage and run out a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 victor.
Edwards had dropped only one set en route to the semifinals, which was her first semis appearance on the ITF Junior Circuit.
The 14-year-old will now turn her attention to the Circuit ITF Des 18 Ans et Moins De l’Afrique de l’Ouest et du Centre- another Grade 4 event- which begins on Monday, 16 September in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
