Oyinlomo Quadre is into the final of the ITF Grade 4 hard-court tournament in Cotonou, following a 7-6, 6-3 victory over the tournament’s 4th seed, Gauri Bhagia of India in a match that spanned two days because of rain.
Quadre, the top seed, had led the Indian 7-6, 3-1 before rain caused play to be suspended on Thursday. Both girls would return to court on Friday, with Quadre holding firm to close out the match and move into her second final on the ITF Junior Circuit this year.
The 16-year-old is now one match win away from a second title this year, after triumphing at the Grade 3 event in Megrine, Tunisia in April.
She takes on Bhagia’s compatriot, Vipasha Mehra, who’s seeded No. 2, in the final on Saturday. Mehra, who’s won 3 titles this year, including the J4 Lome’s last week, defeated Egypt’s Yasmin Ezzat 6-2, 7-6(9) on Thursday to book her place in the final – her 4th on the junior circuit this year.
Both Quadre and Mehra have ticked through the girls’ singles draw this week in impressive fashion, and are yet to surrender a set. The final promises to be gripping.
