Christie Agugbom at 37 is still hitting with devastating efficiency. The 2-time champion defeated Aanu Aiyegbusi 7-5, 6-1 to advance to her second consecutive CBN Open final in Abuja on Friday.
Agugbom had fallen behind early in the first set, when Aiyegbusi broke for a 1-0 lead. However, she produced some spirited effort to carve out a decisive break in the 10th game to stop Aiyegbusi from serving out the set. She then consolidated with a hold and broke in the 12th game to close out the set.
The second set was smooth sailing for the 37-year-old, as she broke twice to power to victory.
