Nigerians, Musa Mohammed and Emmanuel Sunday won their respective wildcard playoffs semi-final encounters to book a spot in the main draw of the Dayak Tennis Championships which will get underway on Tuesday, 16 April.
Mohammed defeated Tochukwu Ezeh 6-1, 6-3 to secure one of the two wildcards available via playoffs. The 17-year-old had, before this week at the Tombim Open, never competed in the main draw of an ITF World Tour event. Having given a good account of himself in an epic three-set battle against France’s Maxime Mora in the first round of the Tombim Abuja Open, Mohammed will now be looking to do even better and get past the first hurdle next week.
Elsewhere, Emmanuel Sunday, 27, went past Gabriel Friday 7-5, 4-1 (rtd) to clinch the second wildcard and move into the main draw. Against Gabriel Friday, Sunday started poorly, but recovered in time, rallying from 0-4 down in the opener to clinch the set and was already 4-1 up in the second before Friday retired due to injury.

The main draw of the Dayak Tennis Championships, which is the second ITF World Tennis Tour tournament in Abuja, will serve off on Tuesday, 16 April through to Sunday, 21 April at the National Tennis Centre.
