The CBN Senior Open 1st round action continued on Tuesday, in Abuja.

6-time champion, Abdulmumin Babalola defeated Michael Ayoola 6-1, 6-3, and powered into the third round of the tournament. While 2015 Champion, Thomas Otu delivered a smooth 6-3, 6-0 win against Charles Uwandu.

The second round of the men’s singles also got underway on Tuesday too, with 32 players left aiming to get into the third round. Two-time champion, Sylvester Emmanuel, who is defending his title, continued strongly, eliminating Joshua Daniel after an easy 6-2, 6-0 win.

While 2015 champion, Thomas Otu defeated youngster, Suleiman Ibrahim 6-1, 6-3, 2nd seed, Joseph Imeh also powered into the next round by defeating Wilson Igbinovia 6-3, 6-2.

Elsewhere in the 2nd round of matches, Ikechukwu Iloputa beat 6-time champion Abdulmumin Babalola 6-3, 6-7(1), 6-3. This will be the first time in three years Babalola won’t be in the finals of the CBN Senior Open.

Meanwhile in the first round of the Men’s doubles, Joseph Imeh and Albert Bikom nabbed an easy 6-1, 6-3 win against Ayorinde Adebisi and Michael Okechukwu.

In the women’s singles first round, 2-time champion, Christie Agugbom eased past Jumai Mohammed in a 6-3, 6-1 win. A reminder that Agugbom has finished as runner-up in the women’s singles for two years running.

Elsewhere, 2018 champion, Sarah Adegoke who hasn’t played in a while is back in action, as she delivered a flawless 6-1, 6-0 victory, only conceding a game to 13-year-old Salamatu Haruna.

2017 Runner-up, Marylove Edwards also defeated Blessing Anuna 6-4, 6-2. The 15-year-old will be hoping to go one step better this year after she became the youngest ever finalist at the CBN Senior Open in 2017.

Meanwhile in the women’s doubles first round, the pair of Oyinlomo Quadre and Serena Teluwo defeated Omotayo Osewa and Toyin Asogba 6-2, 6-3.
