The final rounds of the Qualifiers for the women’s singles at the CBN Senior Open was played on Sunday, in Abuja. Only 8 slots are open for qualifiers in the main draw, and the players have already been whittled down to 16, from an initial 64.

Salamatu Haruna narrowly defeated her opponent, Faith Sunday in a close 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 match to qualify for the main draw. 13-year-old Haruna was a quarter-finalist at the Under 14 ITF/CAT African Junior Championships earlier this year.

12-year-old Nene Yakubu was also impressive as she qualified for the main draw after edging past Khadijat Salami 7-5, 6-4 in a keenly contested match.

Elsewhere, Jesutoyosi Adeusi narrowly defeated 2001 CBN Senior Open Champion, Omotayo Osewa in a hard-fought 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 match. Meanwhile, Blessing Danjuma eased past Esther Aluko 6-2, 6-2 to book her main draw spot.
