The men’s singles qualifiers of the CBN Senior Open got under way at the National Tennis Centre in Abuja on Saturday, with 128 players vying for 16 main draw spots.

Play, however, didn’t get start until after noon due to rain and as a result, short sets were used. But that didn’t stop Musa Sani, who featured in the doubles event of the 3-week ITF World Tennis Tour in Abuja in April, from whitewashing Monday Peter 4-0, 4-0 to advance to the second round. Sani was among 16 youngsters who competed at the recently-concluded Zenith Bank Next Gen Masters in Lagos.

Also, Kayode Savage, who coached Marylove Edwards and Angel McLeod before the duo left Nigeria, was brilliant on the day, as he registered a quick 4-0, 4-2 victory over Martins Ogor.
