The Nigeria Tennis Umpires Association had its annual general meeting on Saturday, 11 January at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State capital.
The one-day gathering, which had 57 umpires in attendance, has been described as a “huge success” by the chairman of the association, Kehinde Ijaola, while he also labelled the association as “one big family.” The umpires chief added that they achieved all they set out to do without any setback.
The umpires had a refreshers’ course, with Arinola Isa, Sunday Samuel and Bitrus Danjuma as tutors, after which a test was administered for 10 minutes. The refreshers’ course, which was on line and chair umpiring, was done to enable the umpires be at their best all year.
The meeting also saw the launch of a new constitution and a polity document which will guide the association’s activities on and off the court.
