Oyinlomo Quadre and her Cameroonian partner, Anna Lorie Lemongo advanced to the doubles final of the African Closed Junior Under-18 Championships in Pretoria today.
Quadre and Lemongo, who have won two ITF Junior doubles titles together, teamed up impressively to negotiate past Maria Charl and Angela Okutoyi in three sets, 6-4, 1-6, 10-5, and reach the final.
The girls had not dropped a set en route to the semifinals, but found themselves needing a decider after a dismal second set showing. They, however, recovered in time to claim the super tiebreaker and come within one match-win of a third doubles title.
For the title on Friday, they will take on the Moroccan duo of Sara Akid and Yasmine Kabbaj. Akid and Kabbaj, the top-seeded duo, defeated South Africa’s Delien Kleinhans and Isabella Weatherhead 7-6, 6-4 to make the final.
