Oyinlomo Quadre failed to get past the first hurdle at the ITF/CAT African Closed Junior Under-18 Championship in Pretoria today.
The 16-year-old, who came into the event on the back of title-run in the same city last week, was edged in three sets by home favourite, Delien Kleinhans in Monday’s first-rounder.
Quadre had claimed a quick first set win, but the South African rallied to even the match in a second set tiebreaker before going on to secure a 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 win.
Quadre, however, has doubles to play at the event, and has teamed up with Anna Lorie Lemongo of Cameroon. The duo will take on Zimbabwe’s Chelsea Chakanyuka and Benin’s Gloriana Nahum for a place in the doubles quarter-finals on Tuesday.
