On Saturday the Nigerian team claimed victory in three of the four ties they competed in to continue their fine run at the team event of the African Junior Championships in Lome.

Oiza Yakubu, Marylove Edwards and Rebecca Ekpenyong all produced strong performances to secure another 3-0 victory in the girls U16 category.

After beating Benin on Friday, the girls impressively defeated host nation, Togo on Saturday, with Yakubu putting the team ahead in the first singles rubber after a 6-2, 6-2 win over Kekeli Adjiwanou.

Marylove Edwards dropped just a game in a 6-1, 6-0 drubbing of Ishane Derma in the second singles rubber and then teamed up with Rebecca Ekpenyong to beat the pair of Adjiwanou and Ishane and complete a comfortable victory.

In the boys U16 category, Nigeria claimed a 2-1 victory over Ghana, with Canice Abua and Suleiman Ibrahim securing an unassailable lead in the first and second singles rubbers. Abua defeated Richard Okine 6-3, 7-5, while Ibrahim took out Desmond Ayaaba 6-1, 6-4. In the doubles however, Ibrahim and David Dawariye went down to the duo of Richard Okine and Ishmael Dowuona 6-7, 6-2, 10-7.

Elsewhere, the Ivorians were no match for the Nigerians in the boys U14 category, with Mubarak Ganiyu and Idris Mohammed delivering solid performances to seal a 3-0 victory. Ganiyu set the tone in the first singles rubber, as he overpowered Koffi Nda 6-3, 6-3. Ibrahim would claim a 6-3, 6-1 win over Angel Gamaliel in the second singles before both boys combined in the doubles to beat Kouadja and Koffi 7-5, 6-1.

The girls in the U14 category were unable to bounce back from their defeat to Togo on Friday, as they were edged by Benin 2-1.

Salamatu Haruna had defeated Ella Honfoga 7-6(5), 6-1 in the first singles rubber for a fine start, but Serena Teluwo lost 6-1, 6-0 to Gloriana Nahum before the duo of Teluwo and Haruna lost the doubles rubber 6-1, 6-0 to Nahum and Ndemila Honvou.
