Seun Ogunshakin, on Wednesday, set Team Nigeria on the front foot in the boys category, when he defeated Kakpo Pacome of Benin in the 1st singles rubber. The team, however, couldn’t keep up that momentum and were eventually beaten 2-1 by the Beninese. The girls, also, fell short to the Ghanaians 2-0, with the doubles rubber in that tie still left to play.
However, they will now seek to turn the tables and get on song when action resumes on Thursday.
The boys, led by Seun Ogunshakin, Mohammed Idris, and Precious Ikeuba, will take on the Togolese team, who failed to register a single win against Sierra Leone on Wednesday, as they were thrashed 3-0. While the boys will certainly fancy their chances against the Togolese in Group B, the girls’ will have Benin, who will be playing their first tie, to contend with in Group A.
For the Nigerian girls, the unfinished tie with Ghana (the doubles rubber) will be played after their tie with Benin.
The girls tie against Benin will be first on Centre Court today, Thursday, while the boys tie against Togo will be the second encounter on Court 1 at the Tennis Club de l’Amitie in Cotonou.
