The Nigerian pair of Oyinlomo Quadre and Adesuwa Osabuohein came agonizingly close to booking their place in the women’s doubles final at the African Games in Rabat today, but fell just short to the Egyptian duo of Lamis Alhussein and Sandra Samir.

Quadre and Adesuwa had lost the first set via a tiebreaker, but responded impressively in the second set to take it and force a decider. The Nigerians did well to earn a match point at 9-8 in the final set, but just couldn’t take it, as the Egyptians leveled matters and held firm to claim a 7-6, 2-6, 11-9 victory.

However, the result means Nigeria has finished in third-place in the women’s doubles event and clinched a Bronze medal.

Despite the semi-final loss, it has been an all-round brilliant performance from the duo, who had moved into the semifinals without dropping a set, posting remarkable displays, including a double bagel showing against Kenya in the quarter-finals.

In the women’s singles, Oyinlomo Quadre did not turn up for her semi-final match against Sara Akid, which is to determine the 5 or 6th position. As a result, Quadre will now face Celestine Avomo on Thursday for a 7th place finish.
