Group stage action at the SNEPCo Futures Tennis Championship continued on Day 2 at the National Tennis Centre in Surulere, Lagos, with the top seeds registering comfortable wins.
In the boys 12 and under, Seun Ogunsakin, who’s chasing a third junior title this year, continued his impressive form, as he conceded just two games in a straight-sets win over Victor Hemba. The 10-year-old dismissed Hemba 10-1, 10-1 in the first encounter and earned a walkover in his second match of the day after Toluwase Oshiga failed to compete.
In Group B, 2nd seed, Mohammed Idris won both matches on the day, beating Orisabiyi Adebayo 10-0, 10-3 and Arwal Jaji 10-6, 10-1 in his second encounter.
Elsewhere in the girls under-12 category, top seed, Favour Amaechi defeated Adesewa Olaniyan 10-1, 10-4, while 2nd seed, Mary Azi was beaten 10-7, 12-10 by Bright Emmanuel.
The top two seeds in the boys 14 and under category, Isaac Danjuma and Ganiyu Mubarak kept up the momentum with victories in their respective matches. While Danjuma registered a 11-9, 10-2 win over Moses Olamilekan, Mubarak eased past Chinedu Sunday 10-3, 10-3.
Top seed, Imole Afolabi got in on the action in the girls 14 and under category and breezed past Eunice Yorumu 10-3, 10-3. Elsewhere, Esther Oni was made to sweat before edging past a determined Princess Aluko for a 12-10, 8-10, 10-8 win.
In the girls 16 and under category, top seed, Omolade Aderemi, who had lost in a three-setter on the opening day, bounced back in emphatic fashion on Day 2 to thrash Esther Ajayi 10-2, 10-2. Meanwhile, defending champion, Omolayo Bamidele kept up the fine form with a 10-1, 10-8 victory over Fatima Ganiyu, while Favour Moses had to rally from an opening set loss to beat Peace Obabori 8-10, 12-10, 10-5.

Omolayo Bamidele is looking to defend her title this week in Lagos.
David Dawariye and Suleiman Ibrahim, who are both seeded 1st and 2nd respectively, in the boys 16 and under category, made light work of their encounters—both youngsters easing to straight-sets win.

David Dawariye has won all Under-16 events he’s played in this year.
Dawariye, champion at the CBN Junior Open early in May, brushed aside Usman Garba 10-2, 10-3, while Ibrahim, who’s competing in only the second under-16 event of his fledgling career (the first being the CBN Junior Open where he finished as runner-up) beat Monday Odey 10-5, 10-3.

Suleiman Ibrahim in action.
