The 5th edition of the National Youth Games got underway on September 10 in Ilorin, Kwara State. Tennis action, however, was to serve off on Wednesday, 11th, but rain caused matches to be suspended. Action begins today, Thursday.
Suleiman Ibrahim of FCT, Daniel Adeleye of Ekiti, Ganiyu Mubarak of Oyo, all of whom are seeded 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively, as well as Seun Ogunshakin of Ekiti and David Ekpeyong of Akwa Ibom headline the main draw action in the boys field, which has a size of 64.
In the girls’ field, Esther Azi, the top seed, from FCT, Esther Oni, No. 2 seed from Ekiti, Akwa Ibom’s Mary Udoffa, Faith Adeusi of Ekiti and Oyo’s Imole Afolabi are among those headlining main draw action in the girls’ singles category, which also has a draw size of 64.
In the boy’s field, Suleiman Ibrahim, who won the SNEPCo Junior Championship in May, received a first-round bye and will take on either Peter Idoko of Benue or Delta’s Paul Okonkwo in the second round. In the second half of the draw, 2nd seed, Daniel Adeleye, who also got a bye in the first round, will face either Ezekiel Azi of FCT or Prosper Igiehon of Delta in the second round.
Elsewhere, Esther Azi and Emmanuella Kwange, both of whom received first round byes, will face off in the second round, while Esther Oni goes head-to-head with Ruth Ikpekaogu of Imo State in another second-rounder in the bottom half of the girls draw.
